Walking!

I've been doing it every day, and it's lovely. I live in the hills so I get the extra bit of workout, plus it puts only a bit of stress on my newly-healed knee (which was recently broken--well, the bone had chipped, anyway). I like to take mine around four, when the sun is only beginning to go down and you can see the city from the top of the hill. Plus I like the cold. :D

So! How many of you all walk? Anything special you do?

Hey kiddos!

I'm so excited to see that other people besides me are watching this. I thought that maybe I would get the ball rolling with a little post to see why YOU guys joined this community.

For example, the reason I started this was because I knew that I wasn't the only one here kind of struggling with my weight. But more specifically, I need help getting the motivation to get back in shape! It would be fantastic to have friends that I can trust to be a balance of tough love and understanding. :o) I also LOVE talking and helping to give advice on lots of things - and based on my 12 years of swimming for year-round, competitive swim teams (plus several years of other sports), I feel like I have at least SOME knowledge of exercise, fitness, and eating to impart. I'm sometimes obsessed with the food network (even though I NEVER cook) and can spend hours looking at recipes online and printing them out and putting them in a recipe book. Even though I know I'll never use half of them.


Well, know that you know that I'm a HUGE dork.. haha, I would love it for you guys to reply to this post. Or start your own. What were your personal reasons for joining? Are you in the same boat as me. Looking to get back into shape? Looking for some new or tried-and-true ways to loose a little weight, or find a fitness routine that will motivate you? Or are you just here because I asked you to come? :o) Hopefully this post will help shape the community, and give me some insights as to how I (as well as everybody else) can be of more help to you.

Here is the obligatory first post. :o) My name is wisey, and I am a recent college grad.

Like the info page says, I plan for this community to be super casual and friendly. No point system, no contest or mandatory daily posts. After joining, feel free to make any kind of post that contains relevant material! Like:

*giving advice/seeking advice for healthy recipes, eating out, specific foods and cooking techniques.
*VENT about frustrations you're experiencing! No matter if you are a long-time healthy eater/exerciser or are a beginner! Having trouble with cravings, stuck in an exercise rut, or scared about joining a gym and actually having to use the treadmill next to all those 100 pound girls?? Post about it here! You're almost guaranteed to find someone who has gone through/is going through something similar. (That is, if enough people join!)
*chat it up, and make new friends! Feel free to ask for a "health buddy," someone to become closer with to help you meet your own personal goals.
